Red Pumps

Red pumps are an elegant footwear for most occasions. Red pumps are technically court shoes since the term pumps are really only used in the United States. The term court shoes on the other hand, is distinctly British. They describe a shoe of varying heel height that has a front that is usually low cut. Another distinctive feature of pumps include the fact they usually do not have buckles or straps. However, contemporary fashion has meddled with the formula somewhat and we now have pumps that sometimes has ankle straps.

In this day and age, court shoes are almost always worn by the fairer sex. However, they are sometimes worn by men particularly as traditional formal wear on certain occasions, particularly in the past (Regency period).

It was the traditional footwear for the Victorian period as well where they were commonly used for dancing. Court shoes for women are almost always sold with heels but there are a few examples of flats on the market, but they are not all that common. Fashion trends tend to dictate the styles that pumps are usually sold in. It wasn't too long ago that most of these shoes were sold in stiletto form. They ranged from regular 3 inched heels to those exceeding that figure ultimately down to kitten heel pumps. It should be noted that the term "pumps" usually means something different in the UK. Here, they are a term used for flats or ballerina flats.

Traditionally, court shoes were always made from patent leather. Today however, they are made from anything from suede to satin to regular materials. They go well with suits and uniforms but can easily match a wide range of outfits from skirts to jeans. Those involved in ballroom dancing make consider pumps an important part of their outfit particularly for performances. Overall, red pumps are an excellent pair to have for many occasions.
